About Geraldine Bown

For many years I have been working with people to help them overcome their own barriers when working with people who are different from them, and helping them to value and celebrate diversity in all its forms. Inevitably, however, concentration on difference – however positive – keeps us separate from each other, and so I have been looking at ways in which we can move from diversity to unity. Just as I see diversity underpinning equality, so I believe unity underpins diversity.

During the same time that I was wondering where diversity work could go to now, two other things happened – one personal and one professional. The personal was my ordination in 1998 as an Interfaith Minister committed to spiritual awakening in myself and others – irrespective of religious persuasion. The professional thing was a growing awareness in organisations of the importance of employee support packages and the desire to truly take care of people so that the community of the workplace could flourish and be more productive. So I came to a realisation that the work that I wanted to do in organisations was in the area of spirituality and concerned with feeding people’s souls.
